Dear Parents/Guardians, It is with mixed emotions that I inform you I submitted my letter of resignation to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, as I have accepted the position of Principal at The Olmsted Falls Early Childhood Center in Olmsted Falls City Schools. I am honored to have worked with the staff at Garfield School, the students, and parents—together we enjoyed a wonderful school year. I feel blessed to have spent the last 18 years in CMSD. My interactions with Garfield students as well as all the students I’ve worked with across the district, brought joy to my life. I am a better educator and person because of these experiences. The staff at Garfield School is an outstanding group of people. I am proud of their dedication to make our school a great place for learning. The teamwork between teachers, specialists, office staff, classroom aides, and custodians sets a high standard and creates a sense of pride to be at Garfield School. Please know that I will support the new principal, Mr. Jacob Bosley during the transition in leadership. My official last day with CMSD will be June 30, 2019. This district and specifically, the buildings I was lucky enough to serve—Artemus Ward, Paul Dunbar, Union School, Campus International, and Garfield School will always have a special place in my heart. Being chosen to lead Garfield after opening it as a Pre-k teacher, was the highlight of my career. I am leaving knowing we had a positive impact in your child’s life and that Mr. Bosley will continue to lead our efforts in “Achieving Excellence” at Garfield School. Thank you for your love and support this year. With Gratitude, Dora Bechtel My Girls

For Valentine's Day, students at JAG enjoyed the day in different ways. Teachers planned fun learning experiences inside and outside of the school all connected by RED, LOVE, and KINDNESS. The day went great and without a ton of "Junk food." Students were able to reflect on how we can make a difference for others while also building friendships, laughing and learning together through new experiences...like visiting the Cleveland Orchestra and The Children's Museum. What a great way to head into their long weekend!

Students were nominated by staff for showing Perseverance during the month of January.
Perseverance is the ability and self-control that pushes you to work through challenges. Having perseverance means that when you are facing a challenge, you use your mind and your body to overcome it.

Service Club Cleaning up around JAG
The nice weather didn't just allow us to play outside, it also gave us an opportunity to pick up some of the litter around school that appeared after the snow melted. Please help us out, if you see trash on the ground, pick it up! We have trash cans around the school property, remind others not to litter.

Thank you to Mrs. Davila for creating our beautiful bulletin board to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King! I believe he would be proud of the city of Cleveland for taking his dream even further with, Say Yes! It was an honor to walk JAG students over to be a part of the historical day, when it was announced that Cleveland would be 1 of the 4 cities to ensure that our students have an OPPORTUNITY and SUPPORT to go to college and contribute to our thriving city!
